The Plant Paradox Diet is from a book called The Plant Paradox, written by Dr Steven Gundry. While The Plant Paradox diet's primary focus is on balancing your gut’s microbiome with a curated lectin-free food selection, he covers many other factors in digestive health. Dr. Gundry breaks this diet down into three phases. (I’m going to tell you about each of them here.)

The food lists on this page were created as a guide to accompany The Plant Paradox and not to be used in place of your own copy of The Plant Paradox.

PHASE 1

LENGTH: 3 days. It’s only 3 days. You can do anything for 3 days!

What to expect after 3 days?

What do I have to stay away from?
Say NO to… Dairy, grains, pseudo grains, fruit, sugar, seeds, eggs, soy, nightshade plants, roots, tubers, corn oil, soy oil, canola oil, beef, or farm animal meat.

PHASE 2

Phase 2 Plant Paradox Books

Goal: Repair and restore your digestive tract while changing to healthier eating habits. 

Length: 6 weeks or more. Dr Gundry advises a minimum of 6 weeks

What to expect during these 6 weeks?
-
Breaking old eating habits
-Loose weight
-Boost in Energy
-Cravings for junk food will quit
-Healthy eating habits will become normal

 What do I have to stay away from? Say NO to all the items on the no list and most fruits, beans, tofu, unfermented soy, cow’s milk

 What can I eat? During PHASE 2, you can enjoy all the things from PHASE 1 & all the things from this list below.

PHASE 3

Now that you are thriving it’s time to maintain!


Goal: Slowly reintroduce certain lectin-containing foods back into your diet with proper food preparations.

Length: Both Phase 2 & 3 can be continued for lifetime OR keep going as long as you want to continue a healthy lifestyle without inflammation. 

When should I move to Phase 3: Dr Gundry suggests not to move into Phase 3 until all the following issues are resolved.   

-Bowel Movements have become regular
-Joints have stopped hurting
-Brain fog has reduced
-Skin has cleared
-Energy has risen noticeably
-Sleep has improved
-Weight has normalized

 What to expect during Phase 3?
-Becoming increasingly aware of how your body responds to foods
-Weight stabilizes
-Appreciation for the addition of new foods

 What do I have to stay away from?
Say NO to all the items on the no list and most fruits, beans, tofu, unfermented soy, cow’s milk from an unapproved source.

What can I eat on Phase 3? 
You can eat all the foods listed on PHASE 1 & PHASE 2, plus A2 casein dairy and honey. During Phase 3 you can start slowly reintroducing some lectin containing foods by either pressure cooking OR peeling & de-seeding. See the list below for more details.
